Sonamarg
Sonamarg,
meaning `The Meadow of Gold`, is the base of a major trek that passes along
several mountain lakes. Having backdrop of snowy mountains against a cerulean
sky, the hamlet is situated at an altitude of 2,730 m. Fishing in the Sindh River
that meanders in the valley for trout and mahaseer is popular with the
tourists.
The hamlet is also a significant take-off station for the drive to
Ladakh across the Zojila, the Srinagar-Leh Road Pass. Further, during Sawan
